Arlington TX – from www.star-telegram.com – Arlington police covert operations recorded 59 prostitution related arrests during the period just prior to the Super Bowl while Fort Worth police logged seven.
Police in Arlington said 13 of those arrests were related directly to the Super Bowl, while police in Fort Worth said none of their arrests were Super Bowl related. Neither department arrested any juveniles, authorities said.
Arlington police said they also arrested three men who they believe are pimps, and they are continuing to work with federal officials on a human trafficking charge arising out of one of their prostitution arrests.
Both departments utilized ads posted in local media, portraying themselves as men seeking the services of a prostitute, to make some of their arrests. Arlington police said they warned escort service workers that they would be paying particular attention to the sex trafficking business during the days leading up to the Super Bowl, and they say that may have curtailed some of the sex trade activity.
“With the proactive approach that we took, we believe there were fewer ads by the start of the Super Bowl than there were at the beginning of the year,” said Jaime Ayala, Arlington deputy police chief.
