SANTA ANA, Calif. – from www.thenewstribune.com – As she reached her 40s, Gina Rodriguez wanted to get out of dirty movies, but she didn’t know exactly how.

Only after the extramarital affairs of golf champion Tiger Woods came to light in 2009 did she stumble into a new career.

Her new enterprise is a talent agency that began with one of Woods’ former mistresses, Joslyn James, and continued through last month’s Mistresses Makeover Day at the Newport Beach, Calif., offices of plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Niccole.

Rodriguez’s business is DD Entertainment, and it specializes in remaking the public image of people – especially the ex-mistresses of celebrities – who have had a brush with notoriety.

In the beginning, Rodriguez didn’t know she was starting a new business. She thought she was just helping a friend.

Before long though, she was working with a list of semi-celebrities that reads like a who’s who of recent tabloid journalism. It includes alleged White House party crashers Michaele and Tareq Salahi, who appeared on “Real Housewives of D.C.”; Michael Lohan, father of actress Lindsey Lohan; Jeff Miranda, former boyfriend of Snooki from “Jersey Shore”; and Kate Major, the former Star magazine reporter who, Rodriguez said, was linked to Jon Gosselin and now is engaged to Michael Lohan.

That’s in addition to five reported mistresses of Woods, one mistress of actor Mel Gibson, and three of Jesse James’, the one-time cable TV staple and former bad boy husband of Oscar winner Sandra Bullock.

The first, though, was Joslyn James, a porn actress and Rodriguez friend who was plunged into a media maelstrom in late 2009 because she reportedly had a three-year affair with Woods.

“Joslyn James lived in my home for three months to protect her from the media, and to help get her back on her feet,” Rodriguez said.

Then came other reported lovers of Woods (Jamie Jungers, Loredana Jolie, Holly Sampson and Devon James) plus other celebrities’ former flames, all seeking Rodriguez’s help.

“Thirteen mistresses later, I founded DD Entertainment,” she said.

The agency’s goal is to help its clients move – and earn – beyond their 15 minutes.

“I help them to use their notoriety to build them a platform to take them to the next level of their career,” Rodriguez said.

She tends to call any celebrity’s former lover a “mistress,” even if they only had a brief fling and even if the celebrity was unmarried at the time. Even so, she said, “My clients aren’t all mistresses. They’re all people who were involved in some negative publicity. I handle PR catastrophes.”

That work continued even during Rodriguez’s own PR catastrophe. Last year, she was labeled the “third mistress” of married “Bones” TV star David Boreanaz. Rodriguez, 43, insists their relationship was nothing more than friendship.

Does she take care of mistresses because she was one? That’ll be in her tell-all book, which she’s hoping to publish soon.

Rodriguez also says she tries to help her clients cash in on bad publicity by “monetizing their scandal to the fullest.”

Still, she recognizes that her clients suffer from a poor self-image. That’s why she organized Mistresses Makeover Day.

At his CosmetiCare medical office next to Balboa Island, plastic surgeon Niccole agreed to help, with DD Entertainment and its clients footing the bill.

Mistresses of celebrities suffer from a “negative stigma in the industry and in society,” Niccole said, so they rely on cosmetic medicine to help them “feel good about themselves.”

Three clients of DD Entertainment signed up for Mistresses Makeover Day on Jan. 12.

For Merilee Gerth, the day’s treatment was Botox and facial fillers. She reportedly had an affair with Jesse James before his marriage to Bullock fell apart.

Gerth praised Rodriguez for helping her “get through the craziness” of her 15 minutes of notoriety last year. She sued Jesse James, her former boss at West Coast Choppers, for sexual harassment.

For Rodriguez, Michelle “Bombshell” McGee, another mistress of Jesse James, is a high-profile client, whom she helps pursue a career of public appearances and endorsements, including a recent deal promoting a website that specializes in arranging extra-marital affairs.

But she’s not an easy client to manage. Rodriguez spent much of Mistresses Makeover Day on the phone, making sure that McGee’s behavior the previous night at Charlie Sheen’s party would remain in line with McGee’s notorious public image, not turn into another PR catastrophe.
