NEW YORK from www.thebulletin.us – Actor Charlie Sheen’s drunken rampage with a porn star at the Plaza Hotel and his looming divorce from his estranged third wife, illustrates many of the dangers of pornography addiction, says Robert Peters, President of Morality in Media (MIM), a non-profit U.S. organization. MIM is behind this week’s White Ribbon against Pornography Campaign (WRAP).
The porn actress who was found with Mr. Sheen told the media that she feared being attacked after the 45-year-old actor went berserk following an argument and began screaming at her and throwing furniture. Mr. Sheen was taken to a hospital by police where it was reported he underwent a psychiatric evaluation.
Mr. Sheen is on probation after pleading guilty in August to misdemeanor assault against his current wife (Brooke Mueller) whom he attacked and threatened with a knife. His probation stipulates domestic violence counseling and completion of a court-ordered addiction rehabilitation program.
Mr. Sheen’s addiction to porn was brought to light during his 2006 divorce from his second wife, Denise Richardson, who noted in a declaration presented at the hearing that Mr. Sheen “told me that he was not going to give up his … pornography habit and that I had to accept it.”
Ms. Richardson went on to say, “I told him that I discovered some pornography Web sites that he belonged to which I found very disturbing. I also told him about other Web sites I discovered that he accessed involving gay pornography and also involving very young men who also did not look like adults.”
Mr. Richardson stated in her testimony that, “When I confronted Respondent (Sheen) with this information, he did not deny it. I told him that as a mother, I found this information very disturbing because we had two young daughters and that I believed he had a serious problem.
“I told Respondent (Sheen) that I was very concerned about the children spending the night at his house because of the activities he was involved in with prostitutes … and pornography … I confronted him with information … that he was still having prostitutes at his house. He did not deny this …”
Mr. Peters pointed that Ms. Richardson’s “account of her marriage to Charlie Sheen may illustrate several harms commonly associated with addiction to pornography.”
The anti-pornography activist pointed out that many of the common consequences of addiction to pornography line up exactly with Mr. Sheen’s recent behavior: acting out pornography-fueled sexual fantasies with prostitutes; progression from viewing hardcore adult pornography to viewing pornography that depicts actual children or performers who look like children; children being exposed to a parent’s pornography; a wrecked marriage.
