Porn Valley- I spoke to Justin Magnum last week on the set of Hustler’s Crimes of the Ass. Asked where he got that great, cultured accent, Magnum explains that both his grandparents are from Great Britain and were missionaries in Africa.

“I was born and raised in Rhodesia now Zimbabwe,” he says. “I spent some time in South Africa, London and found my way over here in 2000.” Magnum got into porn because he wanted to race motorcycles on the weekend, workout and was looking for a job that would pay some bucks and allow him to set his own hours.

“After many, many jobs I ended up in porn,” he says. “I like women and motorcycles.” The fact that he makes more in three days than some guys in three weeks is not lost on Magnum.

“I think about that every day,” he smiles. Magnum’s brother Grant Michaels, also a porn performer, was dating Kim Chambers.

“She had just broken up with Scott Styles- I don’t know how they broke up- then Kim and Grant dated for about six months. They lived together. She said why don’t you try it. I love women, and I like to ride my bikes. I thought I’d try it. She hooked me up with Will Hanson, MILF Hunter and I worked for them about a dozen times. Then I met Rick Davis. I knew him from Gold’s Gym. I didn’t even know he was in the business. We both asked one another what we were doing there. He said I’ll try you and I’ve probably done 92 scenes for him.”

Magnum’s first time in front of the camera was horrible, he says.

“I did a boy-boy-girl with my brother. He thought it was funny. I didn’t. I was great out of the gate but when I saw his equipment, I was like a noodle.”

This comment opens up some flood gates because I have to ask Magnum if this is the first time he’s seeing his brother’s “equipment”. Magnum said it wasn’t the first time but it was the context of active combat.

“The visual killed me,” he says. Magnum notes that this isn’t a d.p. where he and Michaels might have gone nuts-to-nuts.

“When we went to a double standing b.j., I just couldn’t deal with it. It was too much for me. So we took turns and I finished. I was very angry. We drove up there together and was laughing all the way home. I never worked with my brother again, for sure.”

Other than that, Justin says Michaels was pretty much his idol growing up.

“He was a great athlete in school and won everything- he was captain of everything. Then he got into volleyball which we both came over here for. He’s a good brother and we live together now in Marina Del Rey. We’re very close.”

Michaels is one huge motherfucker and Magnum says that’s because he kept up with his training whereas Magnum lost something like 40 pounds after competing and winning Mr. California in 2001.

“The next day I woke up and realized I didn’t want to do that any more,” states Magnum. “I didn’t like the lifestyle- I didn’t think it was healthy, so I started racing motorcycles which I did as a kid. That was a dream of mine as a kid so at 28 I started racing again.”

For the most part, Magnum loves the porn business.

“But I don’t like the nasty-nasty stuff,” he points out. “I think they go too far. I don’t like the direction it’s going in. Everybody wants rougher, rougher, nastier, nastier. I think it’s more and more degrading to the girls. I think it’s a little shocking what the girls are willing to do and accept to do. I think some of it gives porn a bad name. I’m more into the prettier, vanilla, boy-girl stuff.”

Nonetheless, Magnum gets recruited to do those kinds of scenes.

“But it’s really not my style,” he hastens to add. “On the month I need the money, I do the rougher stuff. But if I had the choice, I would only do the pretty, boy-girl stuff. It’s easier for me to do as a performer, too, because it’s more realistic. I’m not doing group-things at home. I’m not doing all that crazy stuff.”

Magnum’s attracted to the girl next door-type with natural boobies.

“There’s a few girls in the business that I’d like to work with,” he says. “I’d like to work with Penny Flame- I have a wish list but I don’t think I could get around to all the names right now. The fresh, young nubile girl is more my style.”

Magnum spent 20 years in Zimbabwe growing up. I asked him what you do there on a Saturday night.

“It’s a small, ranch town,” he says. “Everyone knows everyone. There’s two nite clubs. Everyone gets extremely drunk and if you don’t get lucky, you pick a fight with someone.” Surprisingly, Magnum says the ratio of women to men was pretty good.

“The quality of women was outstanding,” he says. “We had three huge female high schools and they were pretty much full with beautiful girls. There was a ton of beautiful girls. But if you didn’t get lucky a very ugly fight would ensue. And you would have the whole town at each club. It would be a crowd of a couple thousand people. But that’s what people did. We would go out and drink, dance and eventually end up fighting. It was fun and here was a lot of recreation.”

I ask him if the women were sexually liberated.

“They were fairly loosey-goosey,” Magnum says. “But you had to be in with the in-crowd. And then you could have your way. It was a good time.

“I played the field,” he continues. “I was fairly shy and a very skinny teenager. I only came into my confidence in the year before I left. I lost my virginity the week before my 18th birthday. I was a late bloomer. It was horrible. Her name was Joleen and she was twice my size. It was like the Discovery Channel shows about the spiders where the female is 3 times bigger than the male and eats them afterwards. She was chubby and very big-boned and tall. She was a huge bitch which wasn’t really my type but I was kind of desperate. She had a pretty face. My parents were away. I invited her over. I had too much beer. I even remember the name of the beer. It was called Hunter in a brown can. I had way too many.

“We sat in the Jacuzzi. We tried to have sex in the Jacuzzi. I never had sex before and it wasn’t working for some reason. Then I threw up because the hot steam and the beer wasn’t mixing. So we went up to the guest room my parents had. She wanted to use a condom. I remember every time I put the rubber on I would lose wood. This was all new to me. I didn’t know what the hell I was doing. I didn’t know if I was in or out. And I was, like, this isn’t what I thought it would be. It was very, very disappointing but I told my friends it was fantastic. Then the second experience was awesome. It was a nice little petite girl named Kim. No condom and it was fantastic. We had sex in my parents’ garden and the gymnasium. It was very good. This was very nice. Then I had my fun and I left.”

Magnum’s dream was to eventually turn pro in the Motocross field.

“But I figured at 29 I would probably never get there but I do great in the amateur series,” he notes. “I’m racing the Fall series right now. I have a few firsts and a few cheap plastic trophies in my garage. It’s just a hobby and a passion of mine. When I’m not thinking about girls I’m thinking about my motorcycle.”

The fact that it’s also a dangerous sport is not lost on Magnum along with the fact that it could fuck up his porn career with one wrong spill.

“Yeah, it does,” he says. “But when you hesitate on certain jumps and obstacles is when you’re going to get hurt. You might hesitate before a 100-foot jump and not make it; and that’s when you’re going to get hurt. Fear will hurt you but I never ride over my head. It’s not worth it. If I was getting paid and I wasn’t doing porn, yes. I would be going a lot faster. So I just do it for fun and try to be cautious. But, yes. I could get badly hurt and that’s just the risk I take.”

I ask magnum about the groupies and he brings up he fact that he’s got a girlfriend.

“She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” he says. “She rides, too. I’ve got her riding. We’ve been dating about a year and three months. She’s bought a motorcycle and loves it. She rides on the kids track and is doing really well at it. I’ve got to behave.”

Asked how his girlfriend feels about him being in porn, Magnum mentions that she’s also a mainstream model.

“I didn’t think it would get serious,” he says. “I met her at Ralph’s supermarket. I hit on her. I was, excuse me. Do you know where the Windex is? And she didn’t brush me off. But, like water off a duck’s back, I would have left. But she had a big smile and walked me to the Windex aisle. I said thank you. I was behind her in line. I followed her out to the parking lot and said would you like to do coffee some time? She said absolutely. She took my number. She wouldn’t give me her number. She called me two weeks later. She’s French Canadian and I didn’t know who she was when she called me because I had worked with a French Canadian girl for Cherry Boxxx. I thought it was the girl I had worked with and I started asking her about work. She was a little confused then said Ralph’s. I was, like, oh, okay, I have another French Canadian friend that I know through work. Sorry.

“That was a year and two months ago. She’s fantastic. I didn’t think it would get serious and it did. Then I thought oh my God. She’ll never understand and she’ll leave me. She never goes on the Internet. She hardly ever watches TV. She she was heartbroken. She did a search on me. She found out at the ten-month mark.”

I wonder how Magnum’s girlfriend knew how to do a search on his porn name.

“That’s the thing,” he answers. “My friends are to blame because they always jokingly call me Magnum at the racetrack. There’s Magnum. She’s, like, why do they always call you Magnum? I think it’s really cute. I’m going to call my new car Magnum. So she nicknamed her new car Magnum because my truck’s called Wonder. So she did a search on Magnum and all these movies came up. So that really hurt her that she had called her car Magnum and that was my porn name. Poor thing. I think it hurt me more that she was so upset. I didn’t think she’d get over it but we’ve worked through it. She’s not the mad type. She’s more of the passive type so she was more hurt, crying- that was much more worse. I wish she had screamed, shouted and punched me in the face. But she didn’t. That’s not her style. She’s not over it completely but she knows for the time being this is what I’m going to do. She knows that we screen and test. We don’t have sex for three or four days after a scene.”

I suggest that if he’s working a lot, that could also screw up the schedule.

“It does,” Magnum concedes. “We’ll use condoms if I’m working a lot which sucks for her or for both of us. It’s not easy, but she is my soul mate. We are best friends. We’re extremely happy and I think we’re both hoping I can move on to other things.”

For kick back time, Magnum likes to cook as well as his girlfriend.

“We watch movies and cook- we bowl a lot. We hike. We love to work out. We run on the beach a lot. Cardio is one of my loves. I get very depressed if I don’t get my exercise in. It’s like my drug. I don’t drink or smoke. It’s a good life. I’m very happy. I couldn’t ask for more.”
