PORT CHARLOTTE, Florida – from www.nbc-2.com – Deputies in Charlotte County arrested a 34-year-old woman accused of having sex with a 17-year-old boy.

The mother of the boy called the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office on May 23 and told deputies about the messages and a picture she saw on her son’s Facebook page.

She said they led her to believe a grown woman was having sex with her son.

Detectives were able to get a search warrant and then collected evidence at 34-year-old Amy Marie Varnam’s [pictured] home at 226 Warwick Street.

The investigative report said Varnam and the boy had sex on two occasions in her home.

She was arrested Wednesday and taken to the Charlotte County Jail.

“It highly upsets me. But at the same time you never know what’s going on in this neighborhood,” said neighbor Nichole Young.

“I don’t think he was old enough to make the adult decision to sleep with a 34-year-old because the simple fact is, anything could have happened.”

Varnam is charged with Sexual Assault on a Minor; she remains in jail on $20,000 bond.
