New York – from www.aolnews.com – State authorities in New York have launched an investigation into an upstate prison for teens following a guard’s allegations that two female guests — a suspected prostitute and a 15-year-old girl — engaged in sex acts with inmates during a party there.
However, officials are urging the public to withhold judgment until the investigation is completed.
“I just would say I would not believe what you read in the papers, necessarily,” Susan Steele, a spokeswoman for the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, told AOL News.
The alleged incidents were detailed Monday in a report by the New York Post. Antonio Collado Jr., a security officer at Goshen Secure Center in Orange County, told the paper that the two females engaged in several sex acts with inmates during a Dec. 12 social event at the facility.
“There was a girl getting her pants pulled down … I saw her red g-string panties almost being pulled off,” Collado said.
Collado, a 58-year-old resident of Port Jervis, has been granted legal whistle-blower status, the Times Herald Record reported.
The Post also quoted State Inspector General Joseph Fisch as saying the prison surveillance footage shows “inappropriate conduct, including a lap dance and something else.”
An e-mail statement released Monday by Fisch is far less descriptive. “There are two investigations currently being conducted. … We are in touch with both agencies and are closely monitoring such investigations,” it reads.
Calls to Fisch were not returned.
Steele said the investigation is being conducted jointly by the Office of Children and Family Services and the New York State Commission of Correction, but she declined to go into further detail. “I would just ask that we be allowed to finish what we are doing and report it at the right time.”
One of five OCFS-operated secure facilities, the Goshen Secure Center currently houses 65 adolescent inmates, all male, who have been convicted of felonies.
Inmates who have exhibited good behavior for a period of at least 90 days are permitted to participate in the supervised social events, as well as invite one guest.
OCFS has suspended all social events pending the outcome of the investigation. An official report is expected to be released next month.
