CARSON CITY, NV – A week after it aired a porn movie, a local public-access television station is getting greater scrutiny from Carson City supervisors. Supervisors have instructed City Manager Linda Ritter to work with station officials to resolve various problems, including the alleged mismanagement of funds.
The action comes after the airing of the porn movie caused Charter Communications to pull the station off the air for 12 hours. Station officials say they thought they were airing a show about a boxing match during prime time Feb. 13, but viewers instead saw a porn movie. The mixup was blamed on a mislabeled tape submitted by a regular contributing producer, Gary Ashby, who was placed of three months’ probation by the station’s board.
Ashby said he didn’t know how the boxing tape was switched with the sex video and that maybe someone recorded over his original tape. Cable Access Television Board member Peter Smith said it was determined last year that $80,000 was missing from the general operating fund.
The board learned that it was responsible for some past-due employee withholding taxes that weren’t paid to the government, Smith added.
