SANTA MONICA – The rapper [and porn producer https://adultfyi.com/read.aspx?ID=5071] Young Buck surrendered to police Friday to face allegations that he stabbed a man during taping of the Vibe Awards, authorities said.
Scott Leemon, an attorney representing the rapper, whose real name is David Darnell Brown, said his client would post $500,000 bail.
Lt. Frank Fabrega said Brown had surrendered, but provided no further details.
Police issued an arrest warrant for Brown after authorities identified him on a videotape of a melee that erupted during the taping of the awards show, which was held Monday in a hangar at the Santa Monica Airport.
Fight breaks out during taping of Vibe awards
The brawl began when a man approached rap star Dr. Dre and punched him as he was about to receive a lifetime achievement award. Police allege that Brown, 23, then stabbed that assailant.
That man was later identified as Jimmy James Johnson, 26, a parolee from Los Angeles. Johnson suffered a collapsed lung and was in stable condition Wednesday at a hospital. Police have been unable to interview him due to his medical condition, Fabrega said Thursday.
Johnson’s mother told KABC-TV that she was shocked to see video of the fight at which he was stabbed.
“I started praying for his safety. That’s it. That’s all I could do,” Donna Boyd said.
Investigators were also trying to identify two other men seen holding knives in a videotape of the chaotic fight that followed the attack on Dr. Dre.
Young Buck is signed to Dre’s record label as part of the G-Unit clique, and his debut solo album, “Straight Outta Ca$hville,” debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard charts in August.
Many in the constantly feuding rap community speculated that longtime Dre antagonist Suge Knight, who attended the awards, arranged for Dre to get punched. Knight has denied any involvement.
Leemon has previously represented members of New York crime families and other rap stars including G-Unit rapper Tony Yayo, whose real name is Marvin Bernard, in a federal case.
