PEMBROKE PARK, Florida – The $48,000 private donation used to help reopen McTyre Park came from Rodriguez Charities, Pembroke Park town manager Bob Levy said on Thursday.
He said the foundation raised the money from two adult clubs, Cheetah South Florida in Hallandale Beach and Booby Trap, which operates near the park.
Booby Trap owner Philip Gori said his friend, Joe Rodriguez, who owns Cheetah and the foundation, contacted him for assistance. He said Rodriguez’s son plays football in the park, and they were concerned local children wouldn’t have a place to play this summer.
Broward County officials shut down the park, 3501 SW 56th Ave., April 20, saying they couldn’t pay for a neighborhood park. They reopened it Wednesday.
“We’re just trying to be good neighbors,” Gori said.
