Porn Valley- A chapter is devoted to Ginger Lynn in the paperback edition of a book titled E True Hollywood Story.
Lynn was born on December 14, 1962 in Rockford, Illinois. Lynn’s father Wayne was 17 and a mechanic at the local air force base. Her mother Marilyn was 19 and a switchboard operator. Lynn notes that her mother was abused as a child and feels that her conception was a device to get her father to marry her mother. Lynn’s father was far from the type, however. He liked to gamble, drink, play pool, shoot darts and was gone from home a lot.
Money being tight, Lynn’s parents moved in with Wayne’s parents Evelyn and Robert Allen and later found a place of their own in 1965. There was a second daughter born- Keri, in 1967. Lynn’s father being a philanderer, he and her mother separated in 1968, and he moved back with his parents.
Lynn grew up being told by her mother that she was homely, ugly and evil; that she was going to burn in hell, that she was a cheater and liar and would turn out just like her father. Except Lynn thought her father was fabulous.
Lynn’s mother wouldn’t allow her friends in the house; and by seven Lynn developed an imaginary playmate who would become a source of consolation. Because she wasn’t allowed to have friends in the house, Lynn turned the garage into a makeshift theater for plays. “We would charge people a dime to to come see us dance and sing,” Lynn said. “We used to dance to Mr. Bojangles and wear all the little raggy clothes.”
But because her mother would harp at her by telling her she was going to be put away in reform school or jail, Lynn said she often thought of killing her with a knife. In 1973 her parents filed for divorce with Ginger and her sister Keri remaining in her mother’s custody.
By age 12, Lynn attempted suicide by swallowing a dozen of her mother’s prescription sleeping pills. According to court documents, her mother ignored her for four days while Lynn remained semiconscious. Lynn said that she wanted to die because she was afraid she was going to kill her mother. “I was afraid of what I was going to do.”
Then when she was 13, Lynn was being beat by her mother with a strap. Lynn, grabbed the belt and put it around her mother’s neck. “I was pulling as the phone rang,” she said. It was her grandfather who was there within minutes and took her back into his house. Lynn was reunited with her father, and Lynn’s grandparents represented stability, love and honesty. So much for role modeling as Lynn began drinking and smoking dope. She had sex for the first time at 13 and became pregnant. She says the condom broke.
Lynn got an abortion but that didn’t stem the tide of her wild ways. Lynn herself admits she was out of control. She ran away with another guy for three days and got pregnant by him as well at the age of 17. Then when Lynn was making extra money pumping gas, she met a guy named Robert Salamone who pulled into the station on his Harley. Salamone asked her out.
Lynn thought the guy, who was 5 years older than her, was the perfect boyfriend. Salamone then introduced her to his crowd and life style that included bar hopping on hay wagons. After Lynn graduated high school in 1980, she split up with Salamone. That June, Lynn’s father re-marrried. Divorcee Sandy Proctor had two children when she married Lynn’s father. But Lynn was unhappy with the extended family, so at the invitation of a girlfriend named Julie, Lynn moved in with her. Lynn then met up with another guy who had a prison record for drug dealing.
Lynn for her reasons just liked hanging out with bad people and moved in with the guy. By this time Lynn was hooked on alcohol.
