Porn Valley- For being a makeup woman in the porn business 11 years, 13 years overall, Lillian Marquez admits that she’s very camera shy. I spoke to Marquez, who could be a porn star herself, on a Mitch Spinelli set Monday. Marquez has just launched a website, www.xxxstarmakeup.com.
“It’s a website that sells my product,” Marquez explains. “My product is a makeup line and I’m starting with lips. Lips are a big thing in the industry. I’m starting off with a lip gloss which is a stage lip gloss. It looks shiny and beautiful. It’s a thicker lip gloss with a different bleed. It stays on through kissing or drinking or sucking or smoking, whatever. It’s made to go on heavier and thicker. It’s not really a stain. I’m going to do that line, also.” As of now Marquez is featuring five lip colors and one lip fatener.
Marquez had been thinking about being her own model on the site but decided against it.
“I had been a face model like six or seven years ago and I stopped doing that,” she says. “I really don’t like it. I’ve been asked to do all kinds of stuff but I really don’t do anything like that. I just don’t like it. I really don’t like to have the camera on me.” Marquez said she was doing some catalogue the other day for the website. “I didn’t want to model for it. I feel like because I’m the founder I shouldn’t model for it and I’m just a little older anyways, now. So I really don’t want to go there.”
Prior to porn, Marquez did makeup for mainstream movies, commercials and magazines. “I’ve done a little of everything in all these years,” she says. Marquez gravitated to porn because the work was steady. “And you love it because the makeup is fun and so exotic. I get to do prosthetics and air brushing. It’s fun makeup every day.” Marquez says you try being on a set of a mainstream film for three months. “It gets boring.”
Marquez’s favorite celebrity to work with has been Whitney Houston. “I went to LA just to see her and meet her.” But most of the music people Marquez has worked with have been guys. I ask her if she had run into a lot of assholes over on that side. “Definitely,” she says. “But with makeup artists, people are usually cool because they don’t want to be messed up. They want to look their best. And we’re going to do that. So they’re usually pretty cool. Every once in awhile you’ll run into a retard who thinks they can talk to you like you’re theirs. Then you just set them straight and everything’s usually cool after that. And I’m good with that.”
Before she even got to do maekup professionally, Marquez began traveling with Paul Mitchell when she was 16. “I couldn’t do anything until I got my license in my hand, but I got to travel with him and do as much as I could without using my shears,” she says. “It was good. I got to do styling for shows. That was cool.” Marquez’s introduction to the adult business came through her brother, Dan, who used to own Dane Productions.. “I went on his first movie set and I met a makeup artist- Sherry Renson,” Marquez recalls. “She introduced me to some people and ever since then I’ve been working every day. I’ve always enjoyed it, so I think it showed and I got a lot of work. I’ve never wanted to go back to mainstream, so much. Mainstream was there and I had a lot of friends who always tried to bring me in, but I was fine where I was at. I liked where I was at. Everyone knows me.”
Because Marquez is very attractive, I ask if she gets hit on by the male performers. “It’s fun though,” she laughs. “It’s all good. I love my hugs every day- nothing but love.” Which is not to say that Marquez hasn’t been tempted. “Work is different from pleasure because you don’t want to get that name of why you’re working for someone,” she states. It’s really not worth it. I can get it on my own.”
And, naturally, Marquez has been asked to do scenes. “For years,” she laughs. “But it’s not me. I don’t like the camera. Even mainstream.” But Marquez hastens to point out that she’s an exhibitionist at home. “I’m very open minded, otherwise I wouldn’t be here. I’ve seen it all. I’m jaded just as well!” I imagine that Marquez has seen it all. She agrees but shakes her head at something she recently witnessed.
“The thing of stepping on a girl’s head,” she says. “They step on her head and do this doggie-style thing. Every time they thrust they’re putting more pressure on her head and you can see her face and her head between a foot. It’s ridiculous. This is something new that I hadn’t seen before. I brought a movie home to my boyfriend so that he could observe. He and all his friends are sitting there laughing. I get home and I’m like what’s going on. They’re showing me this. It’s ridiculous. These used to be a lot less violent. But rough sex is good. It’s awesome. But when you get to stepping on someone’s head that’s way past rough sex. That’s violent. That’s too much for me. That’s not sexy.”
I ask Marquez to dish out her theory on lips, mine being that some porn actresses get jobs where theirs look like throw pillows. Marquez says she just got a lip job several days before but you couldn’t tell. “I just got them done to promote and market my lip gloss,” she said. “I got them done so when I go to trade shows I can show my lips off.” Most of those shows tend to be in Vegas and Marquez says that’s where you want to go to promote your new products. “I want to be the one asked- where did you get that color? I love that color. With tiny lips you can’t see it.”
I imagine that Marquez meets some girls where her first impression is there’s nothing I can possibly do for you.
“I always see beauty in everybody,” laughs Marquez. “But when a girl comes in like that it’s because they don’t take care of themselves. They’re usually on drugs or something like that where their hair is cut and broken off. They’ve got bad teeth. You can’t do anything about that. And there’s break out on their face because they pick and they’re like scabs. You can’t cover that with makeup. You cannot cover a scab.” Marquez said girls fitting into that category come and go very quickly. “The ones on drugs usually come and go pretty fast. Their nails are jacked up. Their toes are disgusting. They just don’t care any more, I guess.”
Marquez had just done makeup on newcomer Nadia Hilton www.adultfyi.com/read.aspx?ID=11062 and puts her in the gorgeous category. “And she has a great attitude. When you have a great attitude and want to be there, it’s different from being pretty. You can be pretty and not want to be there and it’ll show through to the camera.”
Growing up in Washington state, Marquez was a wild kid. “I was just out there,” she laughs. “I wasn’t like everybody else. Everyone’s always called me weird- like unique because I do that Jim Carrey thing a lot, I guess. I’m just out there, I guess. So when I moved out to California [in 1993], everyone was, like, you need to move, this is not the place for you. They expected I would come back because I’d get too wild and lose everything and have to end up going back home. But it was more business when I moved out here. I knew where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do.”
Being from Washington, I imagined that Marquez probably would have committed suicide by now. She says she’s from the eastern part of the state. “It’s really pretty but there’s nothing out there,” she says. “Like we just got a Wal-Mart after I moved and we just got a Carl’s Jr. We’re just starting to get stuff.”
For fun, Marquez and her friends would have bonfires out in the sticks. “There were certain places that kids knew where to go to,” she says. “We’d go off the road into the sand dunes, steal pallets from the grocery stores and have fires all night and drink all night. We’d get crazy with the motorcycles and jeeps and stuff and just get retarded. People would get hurt but it was so much fun. We did all the country stuff.”
