Woman acquitted of sex abuse charges

Massachusetts- A Quincy woman cleared of sexually assaulting a boyfriend’s 13-year-old son with provocative dance moves blames the boy’s mother for the criminal charges and the allegation she was an exotic dancer. “The woman’s very malicious and evil,” Jenna Wright said yesterday. “None of this is very surprising.” Wright, 23, was found not guilty in Worcester District Court on Monday on charges of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and showing obscene material to a minor.

The six-member jury rendered its verdict late Monday afternoon, after the close of the business day, according to the Worcester district attorney’s office. On Monday, the office had said deliberations were incomplete. Wright faced possible jail time if found guilty. She was accused of dancing up against the boy last December outside his father’s Milford home. The boy testified Wright made him uncomfortable by rubbing her hips and buttocks against him after he went outside to play with a remote control car. Later, the boy alleged, he was in the car with Wright and she showed him two suggestive photos of herself stored on a cell phone. In one picture, Wright was topless and kissing a bare-chested woman, the boy testified. “That was never, ever true,” Wright said. Wright’s former boyfriend, Ed Johnson of Milford, said yesterday he believes Wright. “It should never have gotten this far,” Johnson said. “My ex-wife has said since the day we separated that she would do anything to bring me down.” Johnson and his ex-wife, Lori Johnson of Southborough, have been divorced for seven years, according to the son’s testimony. Lori Johnson did not return telephone calls seeking comment yesterday. Police stated in court papers filed in February that Wright was an exotic dancer at The Squire in Revere, but one of the strip club’s owners denied this in March. Wright strongly denied the allegation yesterday, but said she worked as a bartender there a handful of times. She said Lori Johnson passed the false information along to police.

Work aside, Wright denied dancing up against the teenage boy or showing him any photos. “I’m glad that the truth came out and the jurors found and saw the lies,” she said. “I don’t hate anybody, but I feel a lot of sadness for that family.” Whether it happened or not, charging someone for allegedly dancing inappropriately with a minor is highly unusual, said David Frank, a news editor for Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly and former prosecutor in Bristol and Suffolk counties. Indecent assault and battery on a child typically involves a person reaching out and touching a minor inappropriately, though defendants sometimes argue touching was playful in nature, Frank said. “The nature and circumstances of this case are highly unusual,” Frank said. “I’ve never seen the alleged act be dancing.” For her part, Wright said nothing happened and is pleased the ordeal is over. “God was on my side because I was telling the truth and justice sometimes does get served…The ex-wife is an evil, malicious person. I am an innocent bystander who fell for an older man.” Worcester District Attorney John Conte did not return a call yesterday seeking comment on why his office chose to prosecute the case.
