PHILADELPHIA — Investigators into the death of 17-year-old Ashley Burg www.adultfyi.com/read.aspx?ID=11119 are still trying to figure out where and how the teen died.
Police said that they want to know if she died in northeast Philadelphia near the woods where her body was found, or if she died at the Limerick, Pa., home where she was working as a paid escort for David Downey.
Michelle Reeves, Burg’s mother, said she planned to hold a news conference on Saturday to talk about her daughter’s death, but had some harsh words for Downey Thursday evening.
“He’s the one that could have saved her life,” said Ashley Burg’s mother, Michelle Reeves, to NBC 10 News via the telephone. “But then, after he realized she was gone, that’s when he decided to dump her.”
John Conner, the attorney for the two people accused of dumping Burg’s body off Red Lion Road, said that his clients panicked.
“When they couldn’t find a hospital, they said, ‘OK, let’s head back down to Philadelphia. We know that area; we’ll take her to a hospital down there.’ But the whole way down, they became paranoid every time a police officer would pass them, and eventually said, ‘We gotta get this body out of the car,'” Conner said.
Conner said Christine Shutte and Mike Tees dumped Burg’s almost nude body last Monday. A source said that they also left the teen’s belongings near a Wachovia bank in northeast Philadelphia, where they attempted to cash a check given to them by Downey.
According to court documents, Downey admits to writing the check to Shutte and Tees in exchange for them taking Burg to the hospital.
Downey claimed that Burg was sick but alive when she left. Conner disputes that claim.
“When they first got to Mr. Downey’s home, he told them that the girl was dead, that he had a doctor come over and examine her and that she had died of a brain aneurysm,” Conner said.
Sources said that the sister of Burg’s boyfriend was a dancer at Tattle Tales, the same club where Shutte met Downey and from where the escort service allegedly worked. According to court documents, he spoke to a man who claimed to be Burg’s boyfriend.
“Downey told the boyfriend that he needed some help and that Ashley Burg didn’t want to eat. Ashley Burg’s boyfriend, who identified himself as Dan, said ‘Pick her up and throw her in the (expletive deleted) shower,'” the court documents said.
A relative believes that it was Burg’s boyfriend who convinced her to go to Downey’s house as an escort. The boyfriend could not be reached for comment.
Investigators said that Burg died of some kind of drug overdose, but they are still waiting for toxicology results to confirm what drug was involved.
