New Zealand- A man who operated a porn website in the United States from his home in the Auckland suburb of Mount Roskill has been sentenced to 100 hours community work.

Philip Carlton Batty was also fined over $6,000, for possessing and publishing objectionable material.

He had pleaded guilty to 13 charges of possession and was found guilty of nine other charges after a defended hearing in Auckland District Court.

The material involved pictures and videos depicting rape, the sexual abuse of young children and bestiality.

Batty had argued unsuccessfully that he couldn’t be prosecuted because the website wasn’t in New Zealand and that what he was doing wasn’t illegal in the United States.
