Kansas- A Sedgwick County grand jury will convene Sept. 19 to decide whether adult businesses violate the state’s obscenity laws.
Sedgwick County Judge Richard Ballinger ruled that a Wichita group called Operation SouthWind had collected enough signatures to force a grand jury investigation.
The group knocked on doors and set up booths at public events to gather 6,495 valid signatures.
A petition was filed on Aug. 8 with the District Court.
To petition for a grand jury investigation, the number of signatures must equal 2 percent of the total number of votes cast locally in the last governor’s election, or 2,420.
