Porn Valley- Tom Zupko gives Davia Ardell a massive bear hug, Zupko mentioning how they’ve got history dating back to Las Vegas when Ardell danced at Ray Pistol’s club, www.xxxdeepthroat.com and Zupko managed things. You wouldn’t recognize Ardell now, however. Her long blond tresses are hidden beneath a black Bettie Page wig, and she’s wearing Elvis sunglass. Regardless of the outfit, Zupko’s predicting a rocking scene. But Zupko’s not going out too much on a limb, here, because rocking scenes are pretty much Ardell’s trademark.
Ardell has been back in the business about a week and this is going to be her third scene. Her first scene coming back was with www.adult.com. “But I don’t recall the other one.” Ardell’s with L.A. Direct Models.
While I couldn’t think of his name at that precise moment, Ardell reminds me that she used to go with Ian Daniels, a male performer. “That was like ten years ago,” she says. According to Ardell, the relationship lasted for less than a year, that she went back to Vegas. “I was touring a lot.” Ardell says they met on set. “We kind of clicked. We got along. We had the same thing- we were pretty much homebodies. We didn’t like to go out a lot.”
It’s hard to believe that Ardell would be a homebody, but she swears that she is. “I like to take my dogs out- I like to spend a lot of time with them,” she says. “And I watch movies a lot. I’m a movie buff. And I’ve got my TV shows and I like to work out.” Ardell tries to catch the new flicks as they come out. “Either that or I’ve got somebody giving me a bootleg of something,” she laughs.
But what ended the relationship with Daniels, she says were control and jealousy issues. “It was the typical things that get in the way,” she states. “So we just remained friends and parted our separate ways.”
Ardell says she just ran into old cronies Alex Sanders and Jonathan Morgan on a set. “That was pretty funny.” Because she does a lot of featuring, Ardell took note that many of her old movie boxcovers are looking old. “That was me when I was 19 and 20 and people are telling me I look a lot better now,” she says. “So I’d thought I’d get back in and give my fans some new, fresher stuff and let them know what’s going on with me.”
By her estimation, Ardell says she’s been out of the loop and good seven or eight years. During that time she was stripping, traveling the world and doing signings.
“But there’s a method to my madness,” she winks. “My fans are going to want me a little more.” To say that this was a calculated move, Ardell laughs about being smarter than the average cookie.
Ardell is also amazed by the changes within the business. “There’s a lot of new faces, and I’m just now getting to see people. Especially with the agencies and testing. It’s more up to date and that’s good. It’s a lot better.” Ardell followed the events of the last HIV crisis very scrupulously and says she got out of the industry during the Marc Wallice break out.
“That kind of tripped me out and made me think,” she says. “I double-checked myself and said, well, I’ve got my boxcovers, now it’s time to concentrate on featuring. And that’s what I did. I stepped back for a little while- now I’m back.”
Another change that strikes Ardell’s funny bone is the fact that high school girls talk about becoming porn stars and strippers. “It’s gotten out of control which is good. There’s the demand.”
Ardell will now divide her time between featuring and porn performing. “I’m going to take this as I go,” she says. And she’s also given thoughts to forming her own production company.
“There might be some tricks up my sleeve in the future,” she winks. Ardell is also feeling her way, pardoning the pun, among the new talent. “If everything is cool and the chemistry is right, I’ll work with them,” she says. “If it’s not I just won’t work with them again. Okay, that didn’t go to well. I’m just kind of now getting to see these new guys and seeing how it’s going to go.”
In her time in the business, Ardell can’t recall a time when she might have considered a scene a wash for whatever reason. “I wouldn’t say that something like that might come up in the future, but I haven’t run into that problem yet. But I’ve really been away from it so long that I can remember anything that bad happening on a set.”
Ardell has occasionally watched her movies. “To correct yourself on certain things,” she explains. “You look at the positions to see how you look, or to see different ways where you might look better.”
Ardell was another of the many reformed tomboys who have come into the industry. “I never wore makeup- I wore jeans and a T-shirt,” she says. “I had a lot of guy friends that I used to beat up on. I was the typical tomboy.” The first time she had sex was at 17.
She remembers it being a Fourth of July party. She had known the guy for about a week. “He just did it for me. He really turned me on. I was just sick and tired of being a virgin and I’m going to find out what this is all about. We took off from the fireworks at the park and took a walk. It was pretty interesting. Oh yeah. It was a very nice experience.”
Before she got into the industry, Ardell was a dancer in Vegas. “Then I met a feature named Danyelle Cheeks. That was the first girl I had ever been with. She hit on me. She was the anal queen and I was the anal princess!”
The first time Ardell ever tried anal was with Cheeks. “As far as a man there was a couple of exes in Vegas that I tried it out with,” says Ardell. “But I did it personally before I ever did it on film.” Ardell’s first scene in porn was for Mark Carriere and Leisuretime. “That was before my boobs,” she says. “The other one was for Bruce Seven in Hang ‘Em High.”
Ardell doesn’t consider herself to be a drama person. “I’m pretty mellow, pretty passive,” she says. “If something really irritated me, I’d speak my mind. But it’s not really worth the energy or effort to put in the bitchiness or cattiness with it.”
The one thing that Ardell loves about the business is that it doesn’t find her staring at the clock ready to punch out. “I love having sex. I love the money that’s involved. I love dancing. I love featuring. I love my job.” On the other hand, she voices a gripe often heard from female performers- the fact that you’re told one thing about a scene and expected to do another. “To that I say tell me everything beforehand and be honest with me and talk to me,” she says.
Ardell tells me that when she’s on the road she’ll get approached by lots of foot fetish people. “I have size 6 feet- really cute and small,” she laughs. “And then there’s the anal fans and the girl-girl fans. I like girls a lot, too.”
Asked why she hooked up with L.A. Direct Models, Ardell said she liked the website and heard a lot of good things about the company from friends in the business. “He takes care of his girls and so far everything’s been great with them.”
If she had never gotten into the adult industry, Ardell thinks she might have become a veterinarian. She loves animals. While she’s preparing a launch of a website, Ardell maintains contact with her fans at [email protected].
