Nevada- The University of Nevada, Reno has appealed a federal jury’s award of $209,000 in damages to a former employee for the violation of his civil rights.
The jury in June awarded Charles Stricker Junior, a former UNR locksmith who now works in the campus security department, double the $100,000 he sought.
Stricker successfully sued his boss, Rick Favre, who was accused of repeatedly exposing Stricker to pornography in the workplace and retaliating against him after he complained.
In the appeal, the university contends US Magistrate Robert McQuaid should have granted the defense motion for a new trial.
But lawyer Jeffrey Dickerson, who represents Stricker, said the jury’s intent was clear and the judge didn’t make any errors.
The appeal goes to the Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals.
