Los Angeles- A mother and daughter have sued MTV Networks and Reveille Entertainment for libel and emotional distress in Superior Court. Plaintiffs appeared on the June 23 MTV show “Date My Mom,” a so-called reality show, in which male contestants go on “dates” with three mothers and then decide which one’s daughter they would like to take out, never having seen any of the daughters.
The Russian-speaking mother told a contestant, “My daughter has a big heart,” and the defendants allegedly mistranslated her statement in a scroll on the bottom of the screen, “There is no better piece of ass than my princess Anastasia.” Plaintiffs claim the defendants intentionally humiliated them through willful mistranslation. Defendant Reveille produces the show. Plaintiffs, represented by Girardi & Keese of Los Angeles, seek punitive damages.
