Pod Porn will be Huge

Washington- The adult-entertainment industry that kick-started the pre-recorded home-video market is likely to do the same with video podcasts.

Adam Curry, [pictured] president of PodShow Inc., said this week’s announcement of the new video iPod from Apple Computer (AAPL) sets the stage for more big changes in media.

“Porn is just going to be huge,” he told listeners to his Daily Source Code podcast this week. “The porn guys are just going, ‘holy moly,’ ” — in gratitude for the new market that’s opened up to them.

But adult material is only one facet of new commercial opportunities, that Curry foresees. As an example, he said that “video dating should happen. A video dating feed. That’s also a form of podcasting.”

The former MTV veejay, who introduced podcasting to the world about a year ago, added, “We’re only now just beginning to understand the massive changes in our media landscape. PDF-casting? Sure! Our version of media is changing, changing.”

Apple planning online video store?

Apple Computer may be planning a standalone video version of its iTunes Music Store catering to buyers of the new video-capable iPod. A week ago, Apple requested a trademark on the term “Vingle,” possibly as a contraction of the words “video” and “single,” according to AppleInsider.com. In three filings with the United States Patent & Trademark Office, Apple described a video version of the iTunes Music Store business as well as a line of computers, terminals, handhelds, and electronic notepads branded under the Vingle name.

Motorola to sponsor tech podcasts

Motorola Inc. (MOT) announced a three-month sponsorship agreement with The Podcast Network, a Sydney, Australia-based distributor of technology audio programs. Motorola will also offer podcasts of its senior executives, as a way to “to reach out and communicate to a very targeted and worldwide consumer base,” said Neil Stewart, a marketing director for Motorola’s mobile device unit, in a statement. Mick Stanic, co-founder of TPN, said Motorola is his company’s first site-wide sponsor and would be featured in banner ads and audio spots in programming. The network has 100,000 listeners in 150 countries who tune into its 35 channels each month, he said. Motorola plans to advertise the recently launched ROKR phone, which can receive and store podcasts, among other products.
