Cincinnati- Rival sex-toy distributors have made peace, and the woman who triggered the brief legal fight will probably will have to find a different employer for a year.
Joseph Braun, the lawyer for Pure Romance Parties Inc. of Loveland, said Tuesday that Pure Romance reached an agreement with Edible Ecstasy after the Orlando, Fla. company promised not to employ or contract with Moon Taylor for a year. Braun said a similar agreement with Taylor, who lives in Kennedale, Texas, is awaiting her signature.
“It appears we’ve resolved the principal issues,” said Braun, of Strauss & Troy in Cincinnati. “We’re just waiting for her to approve the language of the proposed agreement.”
Pure Romance, one of the biggest players in the business of selling sex aids through home parties sponsored by consultants, blamed Taylor with starting the spat. A lawsuit filed two weeks ago in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court stated Taylor – a former Pure Romance consultant – violated a non-compete agreement by trying to lure colleagues to Edible Ecstasy.
Taylor did not appear in a Cincinnati court hearing last week. Her lawyer, Michael J. O’Connor, confirmed that a settlement is in the works.
“We’re trying to resolve it,” he said. “I think there were some misunderstandings from my client’s perspective that appear to be working out. I imagine the case will be settled next week.”
Edible Ecstasy lawyer Bruce Meizlish said his client has no quarrel with Pure Romance.
“My client knew nothing about Ms. Taylor’s tapping into their list of representatives,” he said. “Once we looked at her non-compete, my client agreed not to work with her as a rep.”
As a Texas resident, Taylor has to contend with that state’s disapproval of sex toys that are defined by Texas law as illegal obscene devices. Unlike Ohio, Texas forbids the sale of those items. Violators can face third-degree felony charges.
