Washington — A Washington state woman who met a 14-year-old boy through an online role-playing game is accused of having a sex with him after traveling across the country to meet him.
Police said the boy’s mother got information from her son’s computer and provided it to local officers and the FBI, who arrested Julie Ann Welborn, 38, of Camano Island, Wash., on Monday at a Red Roof Inn in Jackson Township, about 50 miles south of Cleveland.
She is accused of having sex with the boy in October, and police believe she was planning to move to Ohio along with her two children.
“We know they had sex and met on more than one occasion,” police Detective Bobby Grizzard said.
Welborn remained in Stark County Jail after appearing in Massillon Municipal Court before Judge Richard Kettler, who set a hearing for Nov. 30 on charges of importuning and unlawful sex with a minor. Her children, ages 13 and 15, were placed in temporary foster care while their father was notified.
Grizzard said the woman and the teenager communicated online in a game in which they played roles and could send each other instant messages.
Welborn told officers “she is really in love with him,” the detective said.
