Vietnam- An 11-year-old girl, whose identity is being kept confidential, told police she wants US$5,000 in damages, alleging she was sexually abused by Brit glam rocker Gary Glitter, said a source today.
The girl, born in July 1994 in Mekong Delta province Hau Giang, was sexually abused by the notorious singer, relatives of the girl told police.
Police in Ba Ria Vung Tau southern province confirmed they conducted an investigation and the initial results show the 11-year-old girl knows the layout of Glitter’s rented residence, as he apparently took her in.
Police said last week another 12-year-old girl accused Glitter of sexually abusing her, a claim that is still under investigation.
The rocker’s lawyer, Le Thanh Kinh, told Thanh Nien that local authorities have yet to accept his request for bail, valued at $40,000.
According to the lawyer, Glitter’s representative in the case, Martin Jenkins, has not yet arrived in Vietnam.
Paul Francis Gadd – Glitter’s real name – was arrested in Ho Chi Minh City airport on November 19 fleeing authorities in Vietnam for Thailand.
Glitter’s musical career peaked in the 1970s with hits including “I’m The Leader Of The Gang (I Am), and his now famed sports anthem Rock and Roll (Part 2).”
The ex-singer, famed for his outlandish outfits and a bouffant hairdo, is reported to have lived in Cuba and more recently in Cambodia, where he was expelled after sparking an uproar among women’s and child rights activists.
Police said Glitter had visited Vietnam at least three times in the past few years, applied for permanent residence here, and has lived in Vung Tau for eight months until his arrest.
