LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The founders of XXXchurch, a ministry that targets those in the pornography trade, has launched a new effort called the Trinity Project, which raises money to help porn stars leave the profession.
The project is named for former porn actress Trinity James, [pictured left] a star of more than 240 hard-core porn films and former employee of a Las Vegas brothel.
James, a 24-year-old mother, decided to leave the industry after meeting Craig Cross, co-founder of the Los Angeles-based church, during the largest porn show in the country, L.A. Erotica. XXXchurch rents booth space at the show to minister to people in the porn industry.
“We need to help these girls get up and get out of the industry,” Gross said.
James starting working in the porn industry in her late teens and quickly found herself immersed in hard-core pornography and prostitution. According to Gross, 60 percent of the women in the industry turn to prostitution within a few years of entering the business. James frequently appeared in films with male porn star Ron Jeremy.
After hearing her story, Gross and his co-pastor Mike Foster, decided to do more to help than just talk. They started the Trinity Project to help James and other porn stars get out of the business.
“We want to give them a real viable exit out of porn, not just prayer and a smile,” Foster said in a news release.
XXXchurch.com is in the process of raising $14,000 for James to move her and her 5-year-old daughter to Indiana. She has family friends in Evansville that she can live with that will help out with childcare as James enrolls in cosmetology school. Her 5-year-old will be enrolled in the first grade.
“Too often Christians spend their time praying, talking, and being spiritual with people, but never get in and get their hands dirty,” Gross said. “The book of James says, ‘Faith without works is dead.’ There are too many meetings, too much political posturing, too much condemnation, too much inaction. Helping Trinity is a practical thing that calls people who think porn is a scourge on our society to step up to the plate and do something about it.”
