Illinois- The athletic director at a Metro East school has been suspended after a hidden video camera was found in a room where female athletes were changing clothes.

It happened last week at St. John’s Lutheran School in Red Bud, Illinois, about 30 miles southeast of St. Louis. The athletic director is also a teacher at the school.

The Illinois State Police are investigating allegations that a videocamera was turned on while girls from Dupo Junior High School changed clothes for their game against St. John’s Lutheran.

“We were told to go to a media room to change because they didn’t have a locker room,” said Britny McClenahan. She says when one of her teammates turned on a television in the media room, the girls saw themselves on the screen as they changed into their uniforms.

Students tells Newschannel 5 that the Dupo athletes discovered the video when they saw themselves on a monitor. A tape was reportedly confiscated and turned over to police. The camera was hidden inside a clock.

The girls told their coaches what happened after the game. Educators at both schools stressed that no children were harmed. All of the students are in the seventh or eighth grades.

McClenahan says she and her teammates are left wondering if they were victims of a hidden camera. “It makes me angry. My privacy has been invaded. Its like wow they are trying to do this and all we want is to play basketball.”
