WWW- Adult video star Mark Dalton returned home to Denton on Nov. 22 after his release from prison on parole of a five-year sentence for possession of GHB.
Dalton, 25, whose real name is Jeremy James Son, spent a total of 383 days in the Denton County Jail and the Texas Department of Corrections. He was sentenced last year for violating the terms of his probation on the 2002 controlled substance conviction.
Dalton said in an interview this week he was glad to be home with his family for Thanksgiving. The timing of the release was especially significant, he said.
“I got released on my mom’s birthday, of all days,” Dalton said.
Mark Sons, Dalton’s father, said he and his wife were grateful to have their son home for the holidays.”It was a big day for us,” Sons said. “I know he is happy.”
The blond bodybuilder said he learned from his experience behind bars to appreciate freedom. He called imprisonment a “living nightmare.”
“If I could have picked, I would have never gone through it,” Dalton said. “But now, I’m glad I did go through it.”
What bothered him most was being unable to workout when he wanted and the “horrible food,” Dalton said. Although he still has his “six-pack,” it will take him about a month to get back in perfect shape, he said.
Dalton said he avoided becoming involved in any violence in the East Texas prison near Palestine, although some inmates tried to provoke him because of his muscular frame.
“I had to bite my tongue a few times,” Dalton said. “There are a lot of fights that go on in there. I had a lot of confrontations I had to walk away from.”
Now that he is free again, Dalton said he wants to improve the quality of his life. The “party life” he once led interfered with his work and relationship with his family, he said.
“That took over me for a while, partying all the time,” Dalton said. “That’s one thing that has definitely changed in me.”Dalton said he plans to return to work soon, redesigning his Web site and resuming his career as a model in bodybuilding magazines and as an actor in videos. So far, he has only appeared solo in videos.
“I’m definitely going to get out there and try to splatter my face around on the magazines and in the videos,” Dalton said. “I know one thing that is going to happen in the short future is to get my Web site totally redone.”
Dalton said his parole officer told him travel for work would be allowed.
“They said it was going to be pretty lenient,” he said. “I just have to tell them before I go out of the state. I’m not expecting any problems.”
If Dalton violated the terms of his parole during the five-year sentence, which ends Dec. 5, 2009, he could be returned to prison.
Dalton said his family’s support helped him get through his prison sentence.
“Every weekend you can have a visit, and every weekend they were there the entire time I was locked up,” Dalton said. “They didn’t miss one single visit.”
Dalton’s parents picked him up on the day of his release. Sons said he and his wife observed about 45 inmates being released while they waited for their son in Huntsville, where all prisoners are discharged.
“All of them had a smile on their faces you wouldn’t believe,” Sons said. “Just two prisoners were picked up by families. The rest of the guys just hit the sidewalk.”
Dalton said he received about 10,000 pieces of fan mail from people all over the world while he was in prison.
“That made my time pass a lot easier getting mail everyday,” Dalton said. “You don’t have much to look forward to when you’re locked up.
Denton County Judge Carmen Worley revoked Dalton’s probation last year after a female friend testified he assaulted her during an argument.
Dalton denied he assaulted the woman, who claimed to be his live-in girlfriend, and his sister corroborated his claim during her testimony.
During sentencing, the judge said she rejected Dalton’s defense because of pictures of bruises on the woman’s back. The judge later denied a request for reconsideration of her decision and a subsequent request for Dalton’s release from prison on shock probation.
The Texas Board of Pardons and Parole granted Dalton parole in June on his first request. He was required to complete a three-month rehabilitation program prior to his release.
In addition to the controlled substance conviction, Dalton’s criminal record includes several arrests with convictions for driving under the influence and failing to wear a seat belt.
