Jason Sechrest Sounds Off on AIM, Sharon Mitchell, Jill Kelly and The Halstons

Porn Valley – Jason Sechrest did a phone interview with the Sports Swami that was aired this morning. Swami started with rumors that Sechrest and AIM’s Sharon Mitchell almost had a knock down, drag out brawl over comments she made about the gay industry. “I hear you almost had the smackdown on her,” Swami told Sechrest, asking him if it was true that the gay community didn’t test for HIV.

“It depends on which context you said it,” said Sechrest doing a little verbal dance. Sechrest acknowledged that the gay industry is different from the straight industry. “Most companies [in the gay industry] do not require HIV testing,” Sechrest said. “They do not require a performer to show up on set with a test. On the other hand, what they do require- nearly every production company in the gay porn industry- is condoms.” Sechrest notes that condom-less work is found on the straight said.

Sechrest: “You really have to wonder which industry is really doing the safer thing. Is it safer to show up with a test that’s a month old and could have contracted something within a month. Or is it safer to mandate the use of condoms like the gay porn industry does?”

Asked if performers carrying the HIV virus were allowed to work in the gay industry, Sechrest said you could still work in gay movies and that there are so many performers doing so. “It’s well known that they are HIV positive,” Sechrest said. “The gay community is a lot more tolerant in general of the disease. I think we’re a little more aware of the disease and a little more educated on it. And we know a little bit more about how to protect ourselves from it because it is something that we’re faced with and have to deal with.”

On the issue of Mitchell, Sechrest said, “Thank God we have that place [AIM]. When they started AIM there was actually an HIV epidemic within the porn industry.

?Thank God that someone like Sharon Mitchell and the other co-founders of AIM got together and said let’s offer a place where porn stars can get tested for free,” Sechrest went on to say. “I understand that people come down on AIM all the time because they feel there are problems with it or whatever. Of course there are problems with it. It’s a health care clinic that’s based on the porn industry. Duh, it’s going to have problems. But the truth is that Sharon Mitchell and AIM have kept us all alive and breathing.”

Swami said he heard that maybe Sechrest would be getting a nomination for Best non-sex role in Bill & Stace. Sechrest said it wouldn’t be happening this year because the movie only just came out. “I would hope that it would happen next year,” Sechrest said. “The movie hit the streets on Wednesday. It’s a parody of Will & Grace, and I get to play Just Josh which is sort of a parody of the Just Jack character. It’s really funny, and the movie features Tyler Faith’s first anal scene which is a reason to buy the video in of itself. Kurt Lockwood just bangs the living hell out of her little hole.” All things considered, Swami said it wasn’t fair that Sechrest didn’t get anything. “I didn’t say I didn’t get anything off camera,” Sechrest hastened to mention, noting that his website gives fans an opportunity to live vicariously through him.

Swami also asked Sechrest about his Friday night KSEX radio show. Sechrest said he’s about to wrap up his second year of the show Young and the Curious. “It’s going incredibly well. It’s one of the highest rated shows on the program. It’s hysterical,” said Sechrest explaining that the listening audience at KSEX is predominantly straight male. “In reality it’s one of the highest rated shows on the program. I’m very happy with that.” Sechrest described his show as varying in tone from the very dramatic to the very comedic at any time.

Running down his biog, Sechrest also pointed out that he had been a publicist with JKP for about a year and a half. “Even before I started hosting the Young and The Curious I was co-hosting Tales of Tail with Jacklyn Lick,” he added. “I went on that show as a guest and she asked me if I would consider coming back as a co-host.” Sechret told her that he would, provided that he could plug jasoncurious.com and bring someone who’s featured on his site each week with him. “I couldn’t possibly fathom why anyone would want to listen to me.” Sechrest said the Monday night edition of which he was a part became the most listened to night of Lick’s daily show.

Swami asked for the details of what happened between Sechrest and JKP. Sechrest said it was a mutual parting of the ways. “They would have kept me on if I wanted to be in an office job,” he said. “My problem is that I had more clients than just JKP at the time. And I still do.” Sechrest said he didn’t want to make it seem that he was promoting one company or one person more than anyone else. Working out of a home office, Sechrest said he’s turned off by a 9 to 5 job.

Swami used the words “falling apart” to describe certain situations at JKP. Sechrest laughed. “Jill Kelly Productions taught me how to put a positive spin on any story,” Sechrest said. “It’s something you have to know as a publicist.” Sechrest said one of his hard and fast rules as a publicist is never lying.

“I will always find a positive in a situation and try to turn something around,” Sechrest added. “In the case of JKP it wasn’t that difficult. Because there’s just as much good going on in that company as there is- drama and insanity. There’s so much craziness going on within the performers and the people behind the scenes at Jill Kelly Productions. But it all balances out with the product they put out. I think they put out a damn good porno. Or I wouldn’t have been in their most recent movie.”

Asked to evaluate Kelly as a business owner, Sechrest said she’s becoming a good one. “She’s learning. You have to remember that the company still isn’t that old. It’s still in its beginning stages.” Sechrest said because of that, Kelly till has a lot to learn. “The great thing about Jill is that she recognizes that. She puts that out there immediately and says I make mistakes. I say the wrong things. I do the wrong things, but it’s all a learning process for me.” Sechrest said Kelly isn’t the world’s best businesswoman. “She’s no Joy King of Wicked Pictures by any means.”

Swami noted that one of Sechrest’s clients Troy and Holly Halston were going through a bitter custody battle over their kid. “The mother of Troy’s oldest daughter is saying that they’re unfit parents.” Swami asked Sechrest’s take.

Sechrest said Holly around her kids becomes “such the mother,” taking in the irony that only moments before on a set Halston’s screaming about how much she enjoys being fucked in the ass. “Then she’ll go home, and she just wants nothing more than to make brownies and help her kids with her homework. She’s a completely different person around her kids.”

Sechrest takes exception that people in the porn industry tend to be branded as unfit parents. “Where do you draw the line? Does that mean a producer or director of porn is an unfit parent? They’re completely immersed in the sex pool and in the sex scene 24/7. Does that make them any more or less fit just because they’re not having sex on camera?”

Swami confronted Sechrest with rumors that he had been dating Vin Diesel. Sechrest said while he’s jerked off often thinking about Diesel, that wasn’t the case. “But I’m very good friends with someone in the industry that I won’t name but I’m so tempted to name but I won’t.” Sechrest did say that Sam Phillips dated Vin Diesel for awhile and that he’s good friends with Phillips. “I have to constantly live vicariously through her to know what it’s like having sex with him,” Sechrest laughed.
