SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb – The owner of Doctor John’s adult novelty store has pleaded innocent to charges of distributing obscene material – this time in Scottsbluff.
John Haltom waived his arraignment in writing and his attorney entered his plea in Scotts Bluff County Court.
Haltom, who also owns Doctor John’s Lingerie and Novelty Boutique in Midvale, Utah, remains free on $500 bail.
The Scotts Bluff County complaint accuses Haltom of distributing obscene videos. Authorities say the videos, purchased and viewed by Scottsbluff Police, appear to have the same content as those that landed him in jail in Omaha. Haltom was released from a six month jail term in Douglas County for obscenity charges on December 4th. Omaha Police had purchased those videos and the county prosecuted the business.
Earlier this month, Doctor John’s Inc. also filed a lawsuit against the city of Sioux City, Iowa, claiming its zoning regulations were designed to keep his Doctor John’s Lingerie Boutique from opening there.
In May, the Utah Supreme Court rejected his challenge of that state’s sexually oriented licensing law. The U.S. Supreme Court on Dec. 1 rejected without comment Haltom’s appeal.
