Public Hearing on Strip Club Ordinance set for Jan. 6

ARENA, Wisconsin — By unanimous vote, the Arena Village Board has tentatively approved an ordinance that will give it increased control over strip clubs.

The ordinance, endorsed last week, would prohibit the sale of alcohol in strip clubs and require that nude dancers be licensed by the village. A public hearing and final vote are set for Jan. 6.

“It’s designed to eliminate the secondary effects of these kinds of establishments, like crime and prostitution,” said Richard McKee, chairman of the board’s Ordinance Committee. “There’s very good research showing that alcohol makes situations worse.”

The ordinance comes in response to the Nov. 28 opening of the Triangles Gentlemen’s Club, known formerly as the Sandbar Sports Arena.

Club manager Bob Lins declined to comment on how the ordinance might affect his business.

McKee is confident it will be supported by the community.
