With all the yammer about the documentary Inside Deep Throat and the renewed interest in the title thanks to Arrow Productions’ announcement last week of a licensing deal to market the Deep Throat, www.arrowfreedom.com costumes, it’s time to re-visit one of the best features in that series. With San Francisco offering the colorful exteriors, Deep Throat III stars Asia and offers another compelling argument about porn back in the day being more entertaining than today’s conveyor belt of gonzo. Directed by Jerome Bronson, a prolific porn auteur from the Eighties, it’s fairly story-drive and for a studio shoot, is very well designed, expensively mounted and brims with style.
Asia’s concerned about her throat passage, having attempted- with catastrophic results- to suck the cock of her boyfriend the first time they’re intimate. Peter North, playing that part, wants more than just a casual fling, but Asia likes it just the way it is. And catching him in bed with her Aunt Penny [Amanda Tyler] elicits more amusement than ire. Aunt Penny’s got her husband’s credit cards, so she and Asia do the town and wind up at a restaurant that pipes in waltzes. Penny lands a gay guy [the first clue is that he asks her to dance to Strauss], so when a drunken North hops into bed with Aunt Penny thinking it’s Asia, she certainly doesn’t resist his advances, having already experienced earlier frustration. The resultant bedroom scene plays out in a nicely composed tableau of light and shadows.
Asia, on the other hand, lands a straight guy for the evening and hops into the sack with Scott Irish. Her throat problems certainly have no bearing on the fact that Scott’s able to bang her prison-style.
With porn legend Tracey Adams playing a nurse who doesn’t mind getting eaten out or eating out [a scene with the late Megan Leigh] at Blue Cross’ expense, Asia sees a doctor at a clinic. A quack without the presence of a duck, Robert Bullock tells her she’s got the equivalent of a deviated septum in her throat. Upon later examination his prognosis is more dire. He’s now convinced that Asia’s got a tumor that needs to come out.
“Better to have your voice box removed than lose your life,” Bullock [probably chosen for this role because of his resemblance to Harry Reems] tells her. With North getting the lowdown from Aunt Penny on who Asia really is [unbeknownst to her, Asia is Linda Lovelace’s daughter], North barges in the operating room wearing only a bath towel. But a shoulder block from a burly nurse puts North down for the count. Saving Bullock from a possible malpractice lawsuit, the OR docs determine the true cause of Asia’s symptoms and she can now suck cock with total peace of mind.
