PITTSBURGH, Pa — An advertisement that reportedly promotes dancers for bachelor and bachelorette parties was included in game programs at an all-girls high school.
The spot, which also included a pornographic Web site address, was seen in 27 basketball programs that were handed out at Oakland Catholic High.
The Rev. Ron Lengwin, a spokesman for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, calls the situation “embarrassing” and attributed it to human error.
“We wish it didn’t happen,” Lengwin said. “We believe it could have been prevented if there were proper oversight.”
Game programs are overseen by players’ parents, who solicit ads to raise money for the athletic department.
“It was read to me, and I know that it was inappropriate when it speaks of male and female dancers,” Lengwin said. “That’s about all I know about it, but it was certainly inappropriate.”
Some students told Russell that school officials ordered them to stay quiet about the controversy.
No Oakland Catholic girls or parents would comment to Action News on Friday.
All of the programs have been pulled, and they will be destroyed and reprinted without the offending ad, according to diocesan officials.
