Bob from Dane [pictured left] writes: Sunday night, a great group of caring people joined me at KCET studios in Los Angeles to help in the battle against neuromuscular disease. They came, and worked tirelessly throughout the evening manning the phones, taking pledges, both on camera and off. I
Must for one last time acknowledge their kindness. They are LIZ VASQUEZ, MARTY O’MALLEY, BATMAN, TIFFANY BELL, MICHELLE FRERIDGE, DIMITRI COSMOS, JONATHAN RAE, DAVE TOBEY, VICTORIA DUNN, KREA FEDAK, KEN TREVIAS, SHERRY ZIEGELMEYER, JAY MOYES, MICHAEL FATTOROSI, VANESSA BLUE, and MICHELLE ASTON.
The final total that was contributed to us thus far exceeds $10,000. this is in the form of checks, and donations that have already been turned in. I had to come to my office this morning as I am on such a high, I did not sleep last nite and I have to go back to be with my friends on the telethon shortly. But this is very important for me to do. You people last night were the best of the best. You helped people you will most likely never know. You saw the devastation this disease causes, no matter what age. This year was very important to me because there have been key research breakthroughs in Pompe’s disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and other disorders.
In my years doing this, I have seen kids who seemed healthy pass away, and it forced me to do this. When I see this, a healthy person’s health turn, it is like a candle melting. Last night, my worries turned into pure joy. You people were the best I have ever dealt with. Who would have thought 3 months ago I would be saying this, THE ADULT INDUSTRY CAME THROUGH FOR MDA., I want you to know that I love you all for what you did, and I really mean it. I loved watching your faces as you took the calls, and
Watched the various films of the children and adults you were helping. I was proud of you. And when the film of AUGIE NIETO, a 48 year old fitness executive was diagnosed with amyotropic lateral schlerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease) a fatal neuromuscular disease, was shown, and then he appeared on the telethon, and in slurred speech, presented as 3 million dollar check, and said he was proud to be one of JERRY’S KIDS, I along with many of you who were not on the phone at that time lost it. I try not to do that, and I am thankful the kids will not be there until this morning, as I hate to make them feel any thing but joy at the efforts we are making to get them out of those f—-ing chairs and braces. So I must salute you all, and thank you, and tell you I do not use the word love
Unless I mean it. I am honored to know each of you, proud to be associated with you, and I hope I can count on you again next year to help me. In exchange for your support, I promise this November to start preparing again to obtain some corporate sponsors, and work twice as hard as I did this past 6 weeks to do a better job next year. What you and I did last night is amazing considering the short time we had.
In closing, let me say this. In a few weeks, we will again have the KSEX GAMES. My thoughts are of all the people running, jumping, and doing all the things we take for granted as healthy adults. I know the people that worked with me last night will reflect back to the telethon and think about their good fortune, in that they have been blessed with good health and are able to compete
In this annual event. I have been blessed with 60 years of good health. I hope in my lifetime, I have one LABOR DAY that I can go on a picnic and not worry about the pain and suffering of neuromuscular disease, as it will be defeated. You people last night were
The best of the best. So I end this saying once again, I love you all for your goodness of heart, and your caring, and for all of you that put your differences aside, I say there but for the grace of GOD go I, and I will never forget you. God bless you all, BOB.
