MINNEAPOLIS — A Minnesota Twins commentator has been suspended for two telecasts for accidentally using profanities on the air before a game against the New York Yankees.

Bert Blyleven uttered the two words Sunday after slipping up during the pregame segment, which he thought was being taped rather than aired live. The words are on the Federal Communications Commission’s list of words that can’t be broadcast between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Blyleven apologized to viewers during the first inning of the Twins-Yankees game in New York on Sunday.

“I apologize to the viewers for my language,” he said. “It makes me feel bad. I’m sorry.” Twins President Dave St. Peter said Blyleven was suspended for the Twins games against Tampa Bay on Tuesday and Wednesday. He said it’s too early to discuss further action.

“Obviously we’re disappointed,” St. Peter said. “Bert understands the seriousness of this. Nobody feels worse than Bert.”
