WWW- Not to put too fine a point on it, but that rock ’em-sock ’em Jacksonville-Pittsburgh game from Monday night is going to affect the outcome of two games this weekend. Jacksonville beat up Pittsburgh in a way the Steelers did it to Donovan McNabb and the Eagles two seasons back. I don’t believe McNabb has ever gotten over the mauling he experienced in that game at Iron City and I don’t think Ben Roethlisberger, wearing protective padding for Monday’s game, is going to be standing too tall in the saddle when Cincinnati comes to play. The Adultfyi consensus calls it the Bengals.
Besides, the Bengals have a lot to avenge for their loss in January to Pittsburgh and the Steelers are about due for a slump. A lot of the experts are going with Pittsburgh citing the fact that Cincinnati is going without middle linebacker Odell Thurman who is serving a four-game suspension, and starting linebacker, David Pollack, who suffered a season-ending broken neck last week. Me? I think Roethlisberger, like Donovan McNabb is going to start hearing footsteps
By the same token, Jack Del Rio’s Jacksonville squad might be aching in such a way from all the physical contact that the Colts may have an easy time of it. It’s going to be an incredible strong offense going against a great defense that’s nursing its aches and pains and a short rest week. Also weigh in the fact that the Colts have a ten game winning streak in their division and have won 12 out of their last 13 at home.
Two more times are under the microscope this Sunday: Philly and the New York Giants based on their game last week where monumentally blew a 24-7 lead going into the fourth quarter. But the Birds lost in more ways than one with star defensive end Jevon Kearse being lost for the season with sprained ligaments. The Eagles are also hurting at cornerback with the possible loss of Roderick Hood compounded with the fact that Lito Sheppard is also out of the lineup. Defense has been the Birds’ strength all along and I’m going to quote Joe Theisman to say that McNabb is going to have to put some points on the board to offset any possible weaknesses this weekend. And, again, the Eagles are putting out word that Brian Westrbrook may be questionable for this week. However the 49’ers have lost 27 out of their last 34 games and truly stink despite a 20-13 win over St. Louis last week.
Now the real question: was the Giants win over Philly last week a fluke or can Eli Manning pull balls out of his ass and be the miracle quarterback? Manning got sacked eight times last week but atoned for his sins. Now kicker Jay Feely gets the opportunity this weekend in Seattle. The last time New York played here, Feely blew three field goal attempts, two in overtime to allow the Seahawks a 24-21 victory. If he made at least one of those it could have been a tie game, said Theisman.
