WWW- Last Wednesday, Americans were introduced to porn star turned science teacher Tericka Dye when she appeared with popular psycho-babbler Dr. Phil. For those who missed it, more than a decade ago, as a single mother struggling to get by, Dye acted in several films, including “Three To Tango”, “Double Your Pleasure Double Your Fun” and “Rug Munchers,” under the name Rikki Anderson. After joining the army, she turned her life around, got a teaching degree and was, by most accounts, a successful teacher and volleyball coach at Reidland High School in western Kentucky.
But last spring when students got their hands on one of her tapes, she was suspended without pay and her contract wasn’t renewed. She’s now reapplying for the job, stating “everybody deserves a second chance,” but will it ever be possible for her to effectively educate teenagers who can go home after class and watch her “double her pleasure”? Despite an admirable transformation, are there some mistakes that you can never live down?
Oddly enough, right around the time Dye was coming clean to Dr. Phil, Yahya Zaini, a member of Indonesia’s largest political party and the former head of its religious affairs department, resigned after a video surfaced of him frolicking naked with pop singer Maria Eva. While Zaini had to leave parliament, Eva’s celebrity status has soared since the video went public. Given her success and that of Snoop Dogg, Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson, it seems like being in dirty movies is a mistake only for some careers and a resume builder for others.
