SALT LAKE CITY- [KUTV.com] It’s a multi-billion dollar industry on the internet and it could be arriving soon on a cell phone near you.

We’re talking about pornography.

The cell phone porn industry is about to take off. So what can you do about it?

It’s tough to go to any mobile phone store and find a phone without video capabilities and a camera.

The porn industry knows that.

It seems everybody’s got one. But these days cell phones aren’t just used for keeping in touch.

“Be very careful with cell phones because the porn industry is moving there big time,” says Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff.

This year cell phone porn was a 1.4 billion dollar business. Analysts predict that number will jump to 3.3 billion in just 5 years.

That’s why Attorney General Shurtleff often makes presentations to parents where he talks about things kids are into these days.

Shurtleff says, “I talk about Myspace and I talk about porn in a pocket, or cell phone porn.”

But attendance at these meetings hasn’t been great.

“The most difficult is getting parents to come out to a meeting to understand what the problems are,” said Shurtleff. “Once they hear about it and they learn about it, they’re horrified.

So Utah is fighting back.

The legislation recently funded a million dollars to go to five different educational programs.

Shurtleff admits it’s a never-ending battle, especially considering how easy it is.

“I don’t even want to advertise it,” says Attorney General Shurtleff. “You can sign up now to receive all the porn you want on your cell phone. So you can have it anytime, any place, wherever you go.”

That’s why it’s up to parents to monitor what their kids are doing…with what many kids just can’t do without.

Mark Shurtleff says, “I’ve talked to pornographers. They know it’s addictive. That’s why they want to push it into our homes, push it onto our cell phones, push it anywhere kids are. Because once they start looking at it, they’re going to be sucked in.”
