SALT LAKE CITY — Utah lawmakers plan to discuss a bill that would make accessing pornography on school grounds a crime.

Violators would receive a Class B misdemeanor under the bill. School officials could also suspend or expel students who were caught.

The bill’s sponsor said there’s currently no law currently against looking at porn on school property —- only school policies.

School officials say the Salt Lake City School District currently has filters that block out pornography sites, blogging sites and chat rooms.

A class B misdemeanor can include penalties of up to six months in jail, and fines.
