Hollywood, Florida- Anna Nicole Smith was popping at least 10 different kinds of pills when she died in a Florida hotel – and had undergone at least two breast surgeries since giving birth five months ago, an explosive new report said yesterday.
The voluptuous diva became “very tired, very weak” after the last breast surgery and may have died from interactions among the numerous medications she took to ease the pain, MSNBC’s Rita Cosby reported.
Used containers of pills littered Smith’s bedside table at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino & Hotel, where the 39-year-old pinup died Thursday, Cosby said.
Authorities are still puzzling over exactly what killed the former Playboy centerfold model just five months after she gave birth to Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern.
But her iconic 42-26-38 body could have been stressed from at least two recent boob jobs, including one augmentation and another procedure designed to repair one of many previous operations, MSNBC said.
In the Bahamas yesterday, Smith’s lawyer added fuel to the fire in the circuslike dispute over Dannielynn’s paternity. Attorney Wayne Munroe ridiculed ex-boyfriend Larry Birkhead’s claim that he might have conceived the girl during a New Year’s Eve 2005 tryst with Smith.
The girl was born last Sept. 7, meaning she would have been several weeks premature if Birkhead’s story is true, Munroe said. He said he expected medical records will show Dannielynn was carried to full term, he added.
Birkhead’s lawyer disputed the claim.
“We know full well there’s every indication the child is a preemie,” attorney Debra Opri said. “A DNA test will tell all.”
Even as the coroner probed Smith’s death, her brash lawyer-boyfriend moved into the opulent mansion in the Bahamas where she had lived.
Attorney Howard K. Stern, who also claims to be Dannielynn’s father, rolled into the sprawling waterfront estate called Horizons with the baby in tow.
Smith had claimed ex-boyfriend Ben Thompson gave her the house. But .Thompson said he had only lent it to Smith – and during the weekend had the locks changed.
After getting a court order in his favor, Stern promptly changed the locks again yesterday and called the cops to file a report about missing computer equipment, drawings and paintings that he said were snatched.
“Right now, Howard is very happy to be reunited with Dannielynn but extremely angry that somebody had the gall to break into Anna’s residence,” Stern’s spokesman Ron Rale said by telephone from Los Angeles.
Stern stayed out of sight yesterday along with little Dannielynn, who could be in line to receive the $474 million fortune that Smith claimed she inherited from her doddering oil tycoon husband, J. Howard Marshall.
Stern is listed as Dannielynn’s dad on her birth certificate. But Birkhead has filed a lawsuit claiming he is the father.
Prince Frederic von Anhalt, the husband of actress Zsa Zsa Gabor, also says he may be the girl’s father.
Smith’s estranged mother, Virgie Arthur, was staying in the Bahamas in the hope of visiting her granddaughter.
But Stern has vowed to block her from seeing the girl, a stand that drew a withering response from Birkhead, who has allied himself with the grandma.
“A grandmother has a right to check on the welfare of her granddaughter,” Opri said on his behalf. “This is basic human respect we are talking about here.”
Arthur was accompanied by a woman, identified only as Smith’s Aunt Elaine, who said Smith had a longtime history of abusing drugs and alcohol and a pattern of unhappy liaisons with partners of both sexes.
“She once had everything going for her, but by the time she married J. Howard Marshall in 1994, she was doing a lot of drugs – a lot of them were prescription drugs, which she was abusing with alcohol,” Smith’s aunt told London’s Daily Mail.
“She woke me at 3 a.m. one day saying she’d seen demons having orgies in the sky,” the woman told the paper. “She said, ‘Tell me you see them.’ But I wouldn’t. She said, ‘You think I’m crazy.’ I replied, ‘No. I’m just not on the same drugs as you.’ ”
“She also had a lot of relationships. She was bisexual, seeing males and females – but no one special, and when she got upset, she’d cry that no one loved her.”
A boxing promoter who hung out recently with Smith and Stern said the couple seemed distant from each other when they partied last month at a boxing match in Florida.
“She ignored him,” promoter and New York radio host Aaron Braunstein said. “She treated him like a little bug. Like a mosquito.”
In Florida yesterday, where Smith’s body still lies at the Broward County medical examiner’s office, fans erected a small shrine with flowers, giant teddy bears and a picture of Smith.
“We love you always, Anna Nicole,” a sign says.
