Porn Valley- Twice in a week KSEX has aired some anti-Renaud polemic. Mike Moz had some extensive comments to make www.adultfyi.com/read.php?ID=21825 about Adultcon’s publicizing of Gina Lynn. Then on Jason Sechrest’s show Friday night, Richelle Ryan got on air and basically repeated Moz’s assertions that West is a stalker. www.adultfyi.com/read.php?ID=21879
Cleopatra of the Nile e-mails me after reading both stories.
Cleopatra writes: “Oh my god this situation has gotten out of control. i dont know why he seems to be a problem for everyone. none of this shit happens to me though. not one person in the industry does stuff like this to me yet i hear shit everywhere i turn. what am i immune? dont u think its crazy?
I had a follow-up phone call with Cleopatra who tells me she knows Renaud going back at least 10 years- before he got involved in the business. According to Cleopatra, Renaud would promote Oscar events and pre-Oscar parties.
“What was he doing with the Academy Awards?” I ask her.
“He and another party had a dinner that would go on beforehand attended by famous people- the ones that are not at the actual ceremony. They would have dinner and watch it on the big screen. This was held down the street from the event. I would go there and have dinner.
“But it’s not open to the public,” she adds. “Only industry-related. Everybody that was there was someone from the industry. It was hard to get tickets and you had to know someone in the business. And Renaud ran it. It was very well done. I used to go to all of them. After that I started going to the real Academy Awards down the street. I was hosting red carpet interviews and doing stuff like that with James [Bartholet].
“Renaud has a lot of experience with that kind of stuff because he was doing it beforehand,” Cleopatra continues. “He was telling me at the time I’m going to start a convention. And we’d talk about it. Three years later came Adultcon. And I’ve been to every one of the shows except maybe one. Of course it started out small and not so successful. But it is successful now.
“I’ve known Renaud a long, long time and this is what people don’t understand,” says Cleopatra. “He comes off that way, I understand. But his intentions are not necessarily the way people are taking it. He treats me like royalty. Him and his staff have never stepped on my feet. Never treated me bad, never done anything like that to me. I’ve always gotten nothing but support, gratitude, help- he talks to me like three times a week. He knows what they’e saying out there. He knows that I know. There’s nothing I can say because I don’t talk to these people that bitch about him. When people bitch to me, I say I’m the wrong person.
“It’s just a shame to see that- I look at it this way, if you’re involved with Adultcon and it’s making you money, fuck the rest. Whether you like him or hate him, if it’s not working for you then don’t do the show. Put your money somewhere else if it’s not giving you what you need. Otherwise, great. That’s the whole purpose.
“I’ll be honest with you- how many men in this business don’t call up girls and go, ‘Hey, baby. I’d love to do something to you.’Most of the men will call some woman and go, ‘Hey, baby, how ’bout it?’
“I’m going about it all the wrong way,” I tell Cleo. “I’m going to have to practice in front of a mirror: hey, baby, how ’bout it. But I got to be a little more smooth with it, I guess.”
“Clear your throat before hand, cough some spit up and you’ll be alright,” Cleopatra advise me.
I repeat the line over and over until I got it down to smooth FM-fluency.
“I don’t know what’s going on but all this press helps him in a way,” Cleopatra laughs. “Look what they did to Charles Manson.”
“Another upstanding man totally misunderstood,” I tell Cleo.
“He may be,” she agrees. “You know what I mean?” Cleo suspects that maybe she should teach a class at the Learning Annex in Hey baby, How ‘Bout It.
“Hitting on porn stars would be a great course,” I agree. “The most fruitless occupation you can pursue.” Then I tell Cleo how my sex life died on the vine once I moved to LA.
“Because this is a city of freaks and crazy people,” she explains. “And these people are driving on the street.”
