Spokane, Washington- The owner of a Spokane adult bookstore has died after being beaten during a robbery late Sunday night.
Jack Allen normally closed shop at Best Buy Adult Entertainment at 9 p.m. on Sundays, said his nephew, Jason Kazmark. But a customer walked into the store about 10:30 p.m. and found the owner lying on the floor, said Officer Jennifer DeRuwe, a Spokane Police spokeswoman.
That man didn’t call 911 until 2 a.m., after returning to check on the owner later that night, DeRuwe said.
“I don’t know why he didn’t call sooner,” DeRuwe said.
Police did not disclose the victim’s name or issue a statement saying he’d died.
But Kazmark confirmed that John “Jack” Allen died at 5:55 p.m. Monday, from head injuries.
Allen, 74, bought the business in 1995 and later moved it from West Second Avenue to 123 E. Sprague.
The customer who found the store owner is not considered a suspect in the crime, and police have no suspects, DeRuwe said
