Dallas- North Richland Hills police arrested a former major league baseball player Thursday on two charges of sexual assault authorities say occurred while he was coaching a girls’ basketball team in 1998 and 1999.

Melvin Hall Jr., a former player for various MLB teams, [primarily the Yankees and Clevelabd] was arrested in Lewisville without incident Thursday afternoon, according to a department press release.

Richland Hills police received a report in May 2007 from an adult female who said she had been sexually assaulted in 1999 when she was under the age of 17. Another victim under the age of fourteen was also identified during the course of the investigation, the release said.

The alleged suspect identified by the women in each case was Melvin Hall Jr.

Hall had access to the girls as the coach of an area basketball team.

Hall is currently teaching a course on baseball and softball to girls ages 14 to 16 in Collin County.

Detectives are expected to present cases of sexual assault of a child under the age of seventeen and aggravated sexual assault of a child under the age of fourteen to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.

Bonds for the two charges are $10,000 and $25,000 respectively. At the time of his arrest Hall also had an outstanding theft warrant in Denton County.

The names of the victims are not being released due to their age at the time of the incidents.
