Los Angeles, CA (CNS) – “Knocked Up” star Seth Rogen may not be the next Ron Jeremy, but after accepting the starring role in Kevin Smith’s new comedy “Zack & Miri Make a Porno” he might be looking to the legendary porn star for some pointers.
The new film co-stars Elizabeth Banks, who appeared with Rogen in “The 40-Year Old Virgin,” and is set to begin shooting in Pittsburgh in January.
The storyline focuses on two friends in their late 20s who are facing serious debt and decide to enlist their friends to help them make a porno film for some extra cash. The plot thickens when the two friends realize that they may have stronger feelings for each other than they originally thought.
Smith is the driving force behind cult classic movies like “Clerks,” “Mallrats,” “Dogma” and “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.” The director is famous for casting his friends in his movies and long time collaborating actors Jason Mewes and Jeff Anderson have already signed on for the new script.
Producer Harvey Weinstein gave the project the go ahead after hearing only the hilarious title and the joint venture will continue the 13-year relationship between the producer and director.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly magazine Smith was asked how he got away with such a provocative title, and what the film may have in store for viewers.
“That’s how I talk. That’s how most folks above the age of 10 talk. It breaks my mothers heart, but its true,” Smith said candidly. “Folks that dismiss our flicks don’t really watch – or more correctly, listen to – them. Our characters may pepper their sentiments with colorful language, but it’s the sentiments themselves that have helped us build and audience.”
