WWW- [Washington Blade]- The GAYVN’s, everyone’s favorite gay porn awards show, were held on Feb. 16, but not without its own very special form of gay controversy. Last year the GAYVNs were held at the renowned Castro Theatre and included gay-favorite comedian KATHY GRIFFIN as host.

According to San Francisco’s SFist, a blog about the city, a change in the awards this year set the stage for revenge.

“The main sponsors of the awards, AVN/GAYVN, decided not to spring for the Castro Theatre and not to pay Kathy Griffin’s high appearance fee this year, opting instead for the Giftcenter and a couple of ‘F-list satellite radio stars,’” a source told the blog. “So then Kathy, miffed, and knowing she has an audience here, decided to mount a competing show at the Castro the same night.”

Mount, indeed. Oh, drama on the porn seas. It certainly is true, at least, that Griffin did manage to sell out the Castro Theatre the very same night as the GAYVN awards, which were held at the Giftcenter and were reportedly not sold out. Derek and Romaine, who host a gay radio show on Sirius Radio, played host, along with drag queen Lady Bunny.

Also, according to the Bay Area Reporter, a GAYVN award nominee for Best Score had to be eliminated after it was discovered that the score’s “composer” had lifted strains from “L’elisir d’amore,” an opera by Gaetano Donizetti. Hmmm…is it possible it took that long to find the overlap in the “opera queen” and “porn fan” Venn diagram of gay men?

Dish says impossible! Must have just been a straight man picking the scores.
