LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Sex in Kentucky can’t seem to buy a break, and the latest incident involves metro police investigating sexually oriented businesses.
Police said its undercover sting at local strip clubs lasted several weeks and led to nine arrests for prostitution, all at Thorobred’s lounges.
A grand jury handed down indictments on Tuesday, and police Friday executed search warrants for records to determine just how vast the alleged prostitution ring is.
An undercover police officer said his unit made the arrests at three different locations: the Thorobred’s lounges on the 13000 block of Dixie Highway, the 3600 block of South Seventh Street Road, and the 4700 block of Poplar Level Road.
The people who were initially arrested were the dancers who had agreed to the sexual activity with the undercover officers.
Attorney Mike Hartzell is representing three of the accused: Margaret Rowland, Travis Legget and Robin Gilbert.
“I can assure you that my clients are not guilty, and that they are going to contest this matter most vigorously,” Hatzell said.
Police arrested Rowland and Legget on Oct. 30 for promoting prostitution, and Gilbert left Thorobred’s on Dec. 30 and again on Feb. 9 in handcuffs for promoting prostitution and offering to engage in the act of prostitution.
The suspects are scheduled to be arraigned on their indictments Monday at 8:30 a.m. The promoting prostitution charge carries a one-to-five-year sentence, while prostitution itself is only a class B misdemeanor carrying up to only 90 days in jail.
Hatzell, who is also an attorney for Thorobred’s, said the club’s owner and management would not be available for comment.
