RIO DE JANEIRO (AFP) — “The Elite Squad,” a Brazilian film that won the top prize at this year’s Berlin Film Festival, has inspired a copycat porn version which is proving wildly popular, according to a report Wednesday.
The Rio de Janeiro newspaper Expresso said a company called Grupo Sexxxy is piggybacking on the fame of the original with its own prurient picture, which features actresses involved in fornication instead of actors and firefights.
The flesh-flick’s success has been such that the producers are said to already be preparing a sequel.
The original “The Elite Squad” depicted a real-life anti-narcotics police unit known for its violent incursions into Rio’s crime-ridden slums.
It has become one of Brazil’s most popular films, and its Berlin win brought worldwide fame to director Jose Padilha.
Some in Brazil’s movie industry believe the movie could even be selected to compete in the foreign-language section of next year’s Oscars.
