California- First she was fired from her job and got national attention, and now the Lindsay librarian gets an honorable award.
Brenda Beisterfeld was fired www.adultfyi.com/read.php?ID=27170 after she reported a patron to police, which is against library policy, even though he was apparently looking at child pornography on a library computer.
The Lindsay City Council presented the award to Brenda Biesterfeld. It came from a national grassroots organization called Family Friendly Libraries. Biesterfeld says she’s proud to get the award, especially since she was fired from her job.
Biesterfeld still wants her job back at the Linsday Library. She was fired after she told police 39-year-old Donny Crisler was viewing child pornography on a library computer. Biesterfield alerted her supervisor, who told her to tell him to stop looking at the pictures, but she contacted police anyway, who later arrested Crisler.
Lindsay City Councilwoman Suzi Picaso says Biesterfeld should be applauded. Picaso said, “There is no firewall that could have protected this situation like we did with having her looking over his shoulder. She was the firewall. She did the right thing even though it was against the policy.”
The County Board of Supervisors sent a letter to her attorney Tuesday proposing mediation.
Biesterfeld not only wants her job back she also wants more restrictions placed on what you can view at a library.
Tulare County says it is reviewing its policy, including requiring employees to call a supervisor before police.
Donny Crisler is due back in court next month and investigators in Lindsay say he could face federal charges in the case.
