Former AVN’er Frank Meyer writes the following on G4. I only say this because I can’t believe Meyer is so way off in left field on this subject. For one, the Calderon tax bill is in a “suspense file” and is likely to die the death it deserves. And porn fans are not willing to pay more for porn. That’s one of the reasons why the industry finds itself in the mess it’s in – all the free content on the web. And, thirdly, California is the only state that’s legalized porn shoots.

Frank Meyer writes: Rumor has it that California state lawmakers are considering taxing pornography to help solve the state’s big ol’ budget shortfall.

Yes, you read that right. The idea was proposed by a state assemblyman, and would impose a 25 percent tax on the production and sales of pornographic videos most of which are made in southern California…the San Fernando Valley to be exact…right off Sherman Way and Balboa, if you wanna get specific…

Of course, those shifty pornographers will likely just pass the cost along to consumers by making pornographic materials more expensive ‘cause they know we’ll pay anything for that quick fix of pleasure!

And if they really don’t like it the producers could just bail California to make porn in other states that don’t impose the tax, right? Wrong. Because that theory assumes that pornographers 1. care what the law says, and 2. have the gumption to do something about it. Which they don’t. So likely the law won’t affect anyone but the consumer…who, as we all know, will pay anything for porn…as stated above.
