Augusta- Tuesday owners of X-Mart will protest a recent decision by city leaders to deny the company a business license.
Opponents of the adult entertainment store also plan to protest. Many opponents of the store will appear at the Augusta’s county commission meeting to voice their disapproval and hold a prayer vigil.
Protesters say they don’t want the store to re-open at its Gordon Highway location or in the city at all.
X-Mart applied for a business license a few weeks ago. But county leaders say the application was flawed and was denied. They county requested a form by a certified surveyor detailing the business’s distance from schools, school bus stops, Churches, and other locations, however, leaders say X-Mart failed to turn it in.
Commissioner Jerry Brigham says he will vote against allowing the store to re-open in its old location along Gordon Highway.
He says it is a gateway corridor and the courts have said adult entertainment stores are prohibited from opening in county gateways.
