Let’s see. Government officials again this week have been saying it’s all about the kids. Yet the US Supreme Court refused to consider the death penalty for kiddie rapers. And the biggest creep of all is only going to get six years. So much for government rhetoric.

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – A former Hamptons real estate agent was sentenced Friday to six years in prison for downloading pornography that showed children being tortured and sexually abused.

“This was material most child pornographers would be disgusted by,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Bode said at Mattias von Wrede’s sentencing in U.S. District Court.

Von Wrede also was sentenced to lifetime probation. He could have received up to 20 years in prison.

A former manager at Engel & Volkers Southampton, which serves high-end clients willing to pay millions for Hamptons estates or hundreds of thousands for summer rentals, Von Wrede told the court he was “truly ashamed.”

“I see that committing this crime was ignorant and selfish. I also know that my sentence will be nothing compared to the horror that these children went through,” said von Wrede, a native of Germany who was arrested in March 2007 following a search of his home.

Several members of his family flew in from Germany for the sentencing and sat stoically in the back of the courtroom.

Detectives obtained a warrant to search von Wrede’s house after receiving an alert from the state’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which had information that 15 to 20 images of children engaging in sexual performances had been uploaded to a Yahoo users group linked to von Wrede.

The confiscated images included a video of girls younger than 10 engaging in sexual intercourse, prosecutors said. A seven-page complaint also said authorities found images and video of “sado-masochistic torture and sexual abuse of children, and images of sexual abuse of children as young as babies.”
