LOS ANGELES — An Argentinian man is accused of posing as a photographer to lure women to hotel rooms where he raped them.
Miguel Angel Barrera, 44, was arrested last week on suspicion of assaulting a 23-year-old woman and two girls, ages 14 and 17, between November 2006 and last month.
He pleaded not guilty Tuesday to nine counts, including forcible rape, sodomy by use of force, lewd act on a child, oral copulation of a person under 18 and using a minor for a commercial sex act.
Barrera reportedly passed himself off as a photographer, approaching his targets on the streets of Hollywood and North Hollywood and offering to take modeling photos of them.
LAPD Detective J.D. Clifford said Barrera would display business cards and claim to be well-connected to major Hollywood studios, particularly Warner Brothers.
Barrera supposedly took his victims to hotel rooms in Studio City, where he photographed and then sexually assaulted them before dropping them off elsewhere, Clifford said.
Because the alleged incidents occured over several years, and because of the calculated nature of his alleged attacks, police believe that Barrera may be linked to additional sex crimes.
Barrera is being held at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles on $625,000 bail.
Barrera has been seen in two vehicles: a red four-door Dodge truck, license 7P17947, and a white sedan, police said.
