CLEVELAND — A standoff on Cleveland’s west side ended with the arrest of a Polka legend’s son, Fox 8 News reports.
Police say that Robert J. Yankovic — son of the late “Polka King” Frankie Yankovic — robbed the Shell gas station on West 117th Street and Clifton Boulevard at approximately 7:45 p.m. Thursday. The 53-year-old alleged thief, police say, was armed with a handgun and wearing a mask.
Authorities tell Fox 8 News that, following the robbery, Robert Yankovic took off for a nearby home, inside which he barricaded himself.
With the assistance of the Cleveland Police Department and a SWAT team, Lakewood Police officers took the suspect into custody about three hours after the initial robbery.
Robert Yankovic has not yet been charged, but authorities say that aggravated robbery charges are pending.
